About Edvoa
Performance-optimised WebP and PNG studio. Edvoa is a Milan web-performance lab that lives at the intersection of design and Core Web Vitals. The team spends most of its day arguing about Largest Contentful Paint, and the tools you see here are the same tools we use internally on Italian publisher CI pipelines.
WebP first, AVIF on demand
Default web-delivery format is WebP at quality 85. The encoder cost is low, the byte-size win is real, and modern browser support is universal. AVIF is available behind an advanced toggle for sites that have already absorbed the build-time cost; we do not make it the default because the median Edvoa user is shipping into a CI budget that is already tight.
Resize and encode in one pass
Resizing in Edvoa is shaped by responsive-image practice rather than by photographic taste. The advanced panel lets you double the target width to anticipate retina rendering, and the output container defaults to WebP so the resulting file slides directly into a <source srcset> entry. Resize and lossy encode fold into one pass to minimise generation loss.
Lighthouse on our own pages
The Edvoa pages themselves return Core Web Vitals scores in the green band on the throttled-mobile profile. That sets the bar for any change we ship: if a feature adds layout shift, JavaScript main-thread time or render-blocking CSS, it does not get merged. We measure ourselves against the same Lighthouse profile we tell publishers to chase.
Two-crop discipline
Most of our users crop hero images and OG share cards, not editorial portraits. The cropper supports producing two crops deliberately for responsive Stories vs desktop hero contexts; CSS srcset can pick a size, but it cannot pick a composition. The browser-local crop pipeline keeps embargoed publication material off our infrastructure during framing.
How Edvoa funds itself
Display advertising via reputable networks pays for the public tier. The editorial blog is independent from advertiser inventory. Bespoke performance audits for Italian publishers are licensed as a separate engagement; if you read this and want one, the contact e-mail is at the bottom of the page.
